Chakra cleanse days 1 - 3: Root Chakra

The root chakra is also known as the base chakra, first chakra and Muladhara (in Sanskrit Mula means "root" and adhara means "support" or "base"). This is the first of the seven main chakras and is located at the base of the spine, where your tailbone sits at the back and where the pubic bone sits at the front.

It is considered the most important chakra as it creates and holds our foundations. I like to think of the root chakra as the foundation of our home. The stronger the foundation, the more stable the house. It is also an extremely important chakra as it grounds the roots that form the integrity of all our other chakras. We cannot fully unblock, balance and recharge our other chakras, without first healing the root.

From a spiritual perspective it is also believed that our root chakra is connected with our Kundalini, also known as the cosmic energy force. It is at the root chakra that the Kundalini energy awakens and moves up through the spine to the other chakras.

The root chakra is represented by the colour red and is symbolised by a red lotus with four petals. At the center of the symbol you will also find a square and inverted triangle.

The root chakra is all about the masculine energy (regardless of what gender we associate ourselves with, we all have both masculine and feminine energy within us). When imbalanced or blocked it can manifest in a number of ways in your life. Some of the most common signs of an imbalanced root chakra are anxiety, fears, insecurities, worries about survival, rage, resentment and a scarcity mindset. An imbalanced root chakra will leave you feeling very disconnected from those around you, from life. It will make you ungrounded. A great way to feel instantly grounded, is to go out in nature! Walk bare feet on the grass, hug a tree, take a dip in the ocean, go for a walk along the beach! The options are endless, but one thing is guaranteed, being out in nature in any way or form, will leave you feeling instantly grounded.

Some of the body parts associated with the root chakra and which may be affected by a blocked or imbalanced root chakra are the adrenal glands, your spine, hips and legs.

The mantra associated with the root chakra is "LAM" and "I AM" and the Solfeggio scale sound frequency associated with the root chakra is 396hz. If you ever feel the need to balance or unblock your root chakra and are unable to meditate or go out in nature, just put on a set of earphones and look for a youtube video with either of the mantras mentioned above and/or search for solfeggio 396hz music! You can listen to this while sitting at work, walking the dog in the park, cooking dinner...the options are endless.

When choosing a gemstone to work with when working on this chakra, I would recommend using a gemstone that connects and grounds you to the Earth and/or stones that are red in colour. Some of the stones that I would recommend would be black tourmaline, obsidian, smokey quartz, red jasper and carnelian.

As we have chakras in our body, so does the Earth! The root chakra of the Earth is located at Mt Shasta in Northern California.

For the next three days focus with intention on clearing and balancing your root chakra. You can do this in a number of different ways. You can use the meditation below, use one that you prefer, use a mantra meditation instead, do yoga poses, sit in stillness focusing on your root chakra... as you can see there are a number of different ways to cleanse your chakras. Pick one method that resonates with you and set a time out every day (preferably the same time everyday) where you will not be disturbed and with intention connect, clear and recharge your root chakra. Don't forget to share your experiences in the facebook group! :) I would recommend also printing out/ writing down the affirmations in the picture below and saying them out loud everyday with intention (go ahead and create some of your own affirmations and share them with the group, if you feel called to do so! :)). As mentioned in my previous blog post, I would also recommend keeping a journal to document your journey through these 21 days.

Thank you taking this journey with me, thank you for sharing and spreading your light! Lets go create some magic!
